Growing up eating batchoy, some might probably wonder if Ilonggos ever get tired of eating batchoy. But no, we, the Ilonggos, are always looking forward to our next bowl of batchoy even if we’ve been eating this savory noodle dish all our lives. Proof is the presence of several batchoy eateries in every district in the city and towns in the province.

In Iloilo, the biggest names when it comes to batchoy are Ted’s and Deco’s but over the years, many new players have entered the arena and have started to make a name for themselves. If you find yourself in the “City of Love” or anywhere in Iloilo, here are the best batchoy spots in Iloilo as recommended by Ilonggos:

Established in 1978, Popoy’s Batchoy is undoubtedly the crowd favorite and is even as The Best Batchoy in 2020 during the First Iloilo Batchoy Festival organized by the Department of Tourism Region VI, SM City Iloilo and Iloilo City Government.

Its first site is in Central Market in Iloilo City Proper but it has branches in Robinsons Place Main, SM City Iloilo, GT Mall Pavia and San Miguel.

At Popoy’s, customers can choose their type of noodle – pancit (also referred to as miki by Ilonggos), bihon, or miswa.

One of the big names when it comes to batchoy, Deco’s remains to be on the top five of the most well-loved batchoy in Iloilo. Aside from the usual batchoy offerings, they pioneered this batchoy kit perfect to take home as pasalubong. The soup is cold and the ingredients are vacuum-sealed to maintain the food’s quality. Frozen kit in a thermal pouch is also available for longer travels.

Deco’s used to have several branches all over the city but now they are down to three only – Valeria, Robinsons Jaro and Robinsons Iloilo.

Remember that each place may have its own take on batchoy, so it’s worth trying a few different places to discover your personal favorite.
